STRUCTURE FIRE

FORT COVINGTON — Five U.S fire departments responded to a structure fire at an unoccupied seasonal home in Dundee, Quebec, at 2:28 Sunday morning. According to county fire officials, fire departments from Fort Covington, Bombay, Westville, Akwasasne and Hogansburg all responded to the scene to provide assistance. Fort Covington Fire Chief Lynden Greene estimated that dozens of firefighters battled the blaze for nearly two and a half hours using 30,000 gallons of water to extinguish the fire. The house, he said, was a total loss. The Quebec Provincial Police are currently investigating cause of the fire. The Fort Covington Fire Department contracts with the Town of Dundee for their fire protection.

PERSONAL-INJURY ACCIDENT

MOOERS  — Darren McDonald of Chazy was injured in an accident on Route 11 in Mooers 5:59 p.m. Saturday. According to Plattsburgh State Police, McDonald was traveling westbound on State Route 11 when he accelerated on an icy patch of pavement. McDonald lost control of the vehicle and crashed off south shoulder. The vehicle rolled over and came to rest on its roof. No further information was available Sunday evening.

FELONY ARRESTS

MOIRA — Joseph Baker, 24, of North Bangor was arrested at 7:48 p.m. Saturday in connection with assault. According to Plattsburgh State Police he punched an individual in the face, injuring that person’s jaw. He was charged with assault with intent to cause serious physical injury, and was held in lieu of $2,500 bail. No further information was available.

PLATTSBURGH — Clinton County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested a county jail inmate and her visitor on a number of charges Sunday afternoon. Deputies report Mark L. Gagnier, 52, of Plattsburgh was visiting Audrey N. Filion, 20, of Plattsburgh, when Gagnier allegedly attempted to pass Filion a controlled substance. Gagnier was charged with conspiracy forth degree, criminal sale of a controlled substance fifth degree, criminal sale of a controlled substance third degree, criminal possession of a controlled substance third degree, and promoting prison contraband first degree, all felonies, along with promoting prison contraband second degree, a misdemeanor. Filion was charged with conspiracy forth degree and promoting prison contraband first degree, both felonies, as well as with promoting prison contraband second degree and criminal possession of a controlled substance seventh degree, both misdemeanors. Both were arraigned in Plattsburgh Town Court, and were sent to the Clinton County Jail in lieu of $10,000 cash bail or $20,000 bond. They will reappear in court on 4 p.m. today. 

PLATTSBURGH — Clinton County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested a county inmate after an altercation with another inmate Saturday. Deputies allege that Gerald F. Mace, 35, of Plattsburgh engaged in a physical altercation with another inmate, which caused injury to that inmate and caused him to lose consciousness. Mace was charged with assault second degree, criminal possession of a weapon third degree, introducing dangerous contraband into a correctional facility (no degree), and strangulation second degree, all felonies. Mace was arraigned in the town of Plattsburgh court, and was sent back to the Clinton County Jail on no bail to await further court action.
