Forums set to introduce candidates

PLATTSBURGH — A number of forums in October will introduce candidates up for vote in town, city and town elections.

At 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, the Champlain Valley Business and Professional Women’s Club will sponsor a “Meet the Candidates” Forum at American Legion Post 20 on Quarry Road.

Candidates for key offices in Clinton County and the City of Plattsburgh will take part in a forum moderated by Press-Republican Editor Lois Clermont.

This is a “meet-and-greet” event, not a debate.

Candidates for town offices are welcome to attend, but should RSVP by calling 570-5138.

The Plattsburgh Mayoral Forum, sponsored by the Plattsburgh Area League of Women Voters, will take place at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 22, in Krinovitz Hall on the SUNY Plattsburgh Campus.

Candidates in the City of Plattsburgh mayoral race will answer questions posed by Mountain Lake Public Broadcasting’s Thom Hallock.

The event marks the 30th year of collaboration between the local League of Women Voters and Mountain Lake.

The league is sponsoring several local candidate forums, as well.

All set for 6:30 p.m., they take place: Thursday, Oct. 17, at the Town of Westport Town Hall; Thursday, Oct. 24, at the Town of Essex Town Hall; and Tuesday, Oct. 29, Town of Jay Town Hall.

The League of Women Voters, a news release said, “is strictly nonpartisan; it neither supports nor opposes candidates for office at any level of government.”
