Kane leads Placid to win over Shaker, 2-0 Carnival weekend

LAKE PLACID — Eddie Kane scored goals within a two-minute span late in the third period Sunday to rally Lake Placid to a 4-3 victory over Shaker-Colonie.

The non-league game was played as part of the Lake Placid Winter Carnival, with the Blue Bombers skating to an 8-1 win over Saranac Lake the day before.

“We were coming off our game against Saranac Lake and we were a little off in the first period today,” Lake Placid coach Keith Clark said. “Shaker-Colonie is a very good team, and they had only two losses coming in.

“We picked up our game in the second and third periods. It was a great effort — we competed hard and found a way to win.”

Shaker-Colonie took a 3-2 lead into the third period.

But Kane tied it with an unassisted goal at 11:21 and then scored the game-winning goal, off a Noah Mohr assist, at 13:38.

Shaker-Colonie took a 2-0 first-period lead on goals by Mike Mineau at 4:56 and then Jeff Bink at 9:42.

But Lake Placid rallied in the second, with Ryan Demp scoring from Keegan Barney at 4:39 and then Damp again, this time from Connor Preston, at the 8:39 mark.

But the visitors regained the lead on Jordan Vetrone’s goal a minute after Damp had tied it.

Jeffrey Smith made 31 saves in the Blue Bombers’ nets, while Tim Wolanin and Zach Dignum each made seven stops while sharing time in the Shaker-Colonie nets.

The Blue Bombers (12-4-2) will host Northeastern Clinton at 6 p.m. Wednesday. It will be Senior Recognition Night for Lake Placid, which has four seniors on the team — Barney, Kane, R.J. Reid and Ryan Meyer.
