Honan breaks Section VII indoor hurdles record for second time

HANOVER, N.H. — Mallory Honan had one record-breaking performance in the girls’ 55m hurdles already this season.

Saturday she had another — and then another.

Honan broke the Section VII record in the preliminaries and the finals at the 44th-Annual Dartmouth Relays held at Dartmouth College. She wound up second in the event to Betsey Garnick of Bishop Guertin High School in Nashua, N.H. (8.29 seconds).

Honan won her trial heat with an 8.87-second sprint before running an 8.62 in the preliminaries. That time bested her record of 8.7 set earlier this season at the Plattsburgh State Field House. She then ran an 8.53 in the finals.

Honan also finished fifth in the girls seeded long jump (16 feet, 6.5 inches). Garnick was also a winner in that event, jumping 17 feet, 8.25 inches.

Also competing from Section VII were Seton Catholic, Saranac and Peru.

Margaret Champagne of Seton Catholic finished second overall in the girls’ unseeded mile with a time of 5:29.55. Champagne’s teammate Maddy Munn finished 35th overall (6:03.28).

In the 600m run, Melissa Whyman of Seton took 10th overall with a 1:41.42.

Ryan, Hebert win

Dartmouth races

Seton’s Mitchell Ryan and Ticonderoga’s Jay Hebert won the boys’ unseeded two mile and the boys 55m hurdles, respectively, at Saturday’s meet.

Ryan finished with a time of 10:00.83, beating out teammate Evan Page who finished eighth (10:12.65).

Hebert won the finals with a personal-best 7.51, beating the personal-best 7.54 he had set earlier in the day in his preliminary race.

Also competing was Seton’s Steven Murray (53rd overall in the boys’ unseeded mile with a 5:09), Seton’s Cody Quantock (20th overall in the boys’ unseeded shot put with a 38 foot, 6 inch throw) and Seton’s Evan Bresette (10th overall in the boys’ unseeded shot put with a 40 foot, 4.5 inch throw).

Boys’ teams from Saranac and Ticonderoga
