Schroon Lake teen charged with rape

SCHROON LAKE — A Schroon Lake teen has been charged in connection with alleged sex crimes.

State Police said Tyler J. Matte, 17, is charged with third-degree rape, a felony; third-degree criminal sex act, a felony; two counts of first-degree unlawful dealing with a child, a misdemeanor; unlawful possession of alcohol by a person under 21, a violation; and unlawful possession of marijuana, a violation.

Just before 10 p.m. Friday, police received an anonymous report of an underage drinking party at a residence on Route 9 in the Town of Schroon Lake, police said.

Troopers responded and were let in the home, where they could smell a strong odor of marijuana, police said.

Authorities said Matte admitted that he had been drinking alcohol with two girls present, ages 12 and 15.

He voluntarily produced an empty vodka bottle, police said.

An 11-year-old boy was also in the home, they said, but was in another room and had not consumed alcohol.

Troopers observed physical evidence of a statutory rape and questioned Matte about it, police said, arresting him at about 11:30 p.m.

He was arraigned in Schroon Town Court and was released on his own recognizance to reappear Wednesday.
