Applications sought for Honeybee grants
KEENE —The Honeybee Community Fund is seeking applications for its annual funding cycle. 
Grants of up to $1,000 are awarded yearly to assist small businesses, farmers, nonprofit organizations, environmental projects and the arts.
Applicants must reside in or do business in Essex County. 
Instructions are on the application, which is available upon request from bzzwords@gmail.com or Honeybee Community Fund, PO Box 281, Keene, NY 12942. 
All completed applications must be received by the Honeybee Community Fund by April 10 in order to be considered for grants awarded in May.

 

MATHCOUNTS winners head to state contest
PLATTSBURGH — Five area middle schools competed in the Champlain Valley Regional MATHCOUNTS competition for seventh- and eighth-grade students on Feb. 1. 
The top three teams, as well as top two individuals (not already on a team) from the local competition have qualified to participate at the state level, to be held at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy on March 15. 
Winning teams come from Saranac Lake Middle School, Stafford Middle School and Seton Catholic Central.
Individual winners are: Talon Bushey, Stafford; Bruno Freeman, Saranac Lake; Calab Moore, Seton; Ella Messner, Peru Central; Kevin Garcia, Saranac Lake; Devin Kidd, Saranac Lake; Brian McAfee, Chazy Central Rural School; and Rachel Racette, Seton.
The MATHCOUNTS Competition Series holds live, in-person events in all 50 states and U.S. territories, taking place in more than 500 local chapters. 
The program is sponsored nationally by the Society of Professional Engineers and locally by the Champlain Valley Society of Professional Engineers. 
Wayne Ryan, partner at AES Northeast, has been the coordinator of the local competition for almost 20 years.

 

Lyon Mt. Fire District meeting changed

LYON MOUNTAIN — The Lyon Mountain Fire District has changed it’s regular monthly meeting to Wednesday, Feb. 12. The meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. at the Lyon Mountain Fire Department.
