DANNEMORA — A New York City man was arrested Friday on an indictment from a Clinton County grand jury.
State Police in Dannemora reported that Rickey Murray, 27, formerly of New York City, was released from Clinton Correctional Facility on Friday, only to be arrested again by the New York State Police on an indictment.
Murray was charged with promoting prison contraband and criminal possession of a weapon, both felonies.
The charges stem from an incident that occurred in April at Clinton Correctional.
Murray was arraigned in Clinton County Court before Judge McGill.
He was sent to the Clinton County Jail in lieu of $20,000 cash bail or $40,000 bond.
He will reappear in county court in February.
ALTONA — Two local men face felony charges for an alleged burglary.
Chazy-based State Police received a call around 5:20 p.m. Wednesday from Cheryl LeClair reporting a burglary at her home on Duley Road sometime between 2:20 p.m. and 5:10 p.m.
Police said LeClair told them that, when she arrived home, she found her front entrance open and there was obviously forced entry because there was damage to the door. Once inside she found that a safe was missing.
Police arrested Darrin K. Smith, 40, of Altona, and Jordan L. Whalen, 20, of Plattsburgh, on Friday.
Smith faces a felony charge of second-degree burglary and one count of a misdemeanor charge for allegedly giving a false written statement in Chazy after he was arrested.
He was arraigned in Schuyler Falls Town Court and remanded to Clinton County Jail without bail due to previous felony arrests.
Whalen faces a felony charge of second-degree burglary and three counts of a misdeameanor charge for allegedly giving a false written statement in Plattsburgh after he was arrested.
He was arraigned in Plattsburgh Town Court and remanded to Clinton County Jail in lieu of $5,000 cash bail or $10,000 bail bond
Both are due back in Altona Town Court on Dec. 6.
TUPPER LAKE — A man and a woman from Caroga Lake in Fulton County, N.Y. were arrested Saturday for allegedly smuggling cigarettes.
Tupper Lake State Police said they stopped Michael J. Lewis, 46, and Loriann E. Lewis, 48, at a Border Patrol checkpoint on Route 30 south of Tupper Lake at around 4:10 p.m.
Upon interviewing Michael and Loriann, police learned they were in possession of untaxed cigarettes from a reservation.
Police said they searched the vehicle and discovered 57 cartons containing 11,400 Native brand cigarettes.
Both Michael and Loriann were each charged with one count of possession/transportation of 10,000 or more unstamped cigarettes, a felony, and one count of fifth-degree criminal tax fraud, a misdemeanor.
They were released on tickets to appear in town court Dec. 14.
ROUSES POINT — A Plattsburgh man is accused of stealing from employer.
Plattsburgh-based State Police arrested Richard L. Gibson, 39, at 5:24 p.m. Saturday in the town of Chazy for allegedly stealing more than a $1,000 from the Dollar General store on Lake Street in Rouses Point.
Police said the arrest stemmed from a Nov. 14 report made by another Dollar General employee. A store deposit had been shorted and records of the deposit had been falsified, the employee told police.
Gibson was charged with one count of fourth-degree grand larceny, a felony, and one count of second-degree falsification of business records, a misdemeanor.
Gibson was arraigned in the Town of Champlain Court and sent to Clinton County Jail. He was later released on $1500 bail.
PERSONAL INJURY ACCIDENTS
PLATTSBURGH — One person was injured in a two-car accident Friday morning.
Plattsburgh-based State Police said Cherice G. Granger, 48, of Plattsburgh, was driving east on Tom Miller Road in a 2004 Nissan when she struck the center rear of a 2008 Ford that was stopped in traffic.
The Ford was driven by Sandra B. Honan, 67, of Altona.
Honan was reported injured and transported to CVPH Medical Center where she was treated and released.
Granger was ticketed for following too closely, a violation.
PLATTSBURGH — Two people were injured in a two-car accident Friday afternoon on Route 9.
Plattsburgh-based State Police said Robert S. Harris, 55, of Plattsburgh, was driving a 2002 Dodge pickup south on Route 9 attempting to turn left when he struck a 2005 Chevrolet sedan driving north on state Route 9.
The sedan was being driven by Meghan E. Guimond, 18, of Plattsburgh.
Harris told police he proceeded through the intersection because he had a green arrow, while Guimond told police she had a green light.
Guimond and her passenger, Vanessa Light-Harris, were reported injured and transported to CVPH Medical Center where they were both released after treatment.
No tickets were issued.
MALONE — One person was injured in a one-car accident Friday evening.
Ray Brook-based State Police received a report at 7:01 p.m. Friday of a one-car accident on Low Road.
Police said Chantelle M. Faubert, 17, of Malone, was driving a 2000 Chevrolet Cavalier when, allegedly going too fast for road conditions, she lost control of her vehicle before overturning into a ditch.
Faubert was reported injured and transported to Alide Hyde Medical Center where she was treated and released.
No information about tickets was available.
BURKE — One person was injured in a one-car accident on County Route 23.
Ray Brook-based State Police said Michael R. Dora, 21, of Burke was driving a 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee west at 11:28 p.m. Friday when, allegedly traveling at an unsafe speed on the ice-covered road, he lost control of the vehicle.
Police said Dora's vehicle exited the south shoulder of the road where it struck a tree, overturned, and traveled 65 feet before coming to rest on its roof in a ditch.
Dora was reported injured and transported to Alice Hyde Medical Center where he was treated and then transferred to Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington.
No information about tickets was available.
SARANAC LAKE — A Lake Clear woman was struck by a car and injured Saturday morning while crossing Main Street in the Village of Saranac Lake.
Dianne L. Peterson was crossing the street in a designated crosswalk at the main Street and Broadway intersection at about 11:05 a.m. when she was struck by a car driven by Francis A. Pelkey of Saranac Lake.
Peterson was transported to Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake where she was treated for minor injuries and released. The accident remains under investigation by the Saranac Lake Police Department.
No tickets were issued.
MOOERS — A pedestrian was struck by a car and injured Saturday evening on Maple Street.
Chazy-based State Police said Lynn R. Decoste, 53, of Mooers, was injured at approximately 6:40 p.m. Saturday when she was struck by a car driven by JoAnne M. Peete, 76, also of Mooers.
According to police, Peete stated she was traveling south on Maple Street when her windshield fogged up. She attempted to pull over but instead drove her vehicle onto the sidewalk, where Decoste was walking.
Decoste was taken by private vehicle to CVPH where she was treated and released. Peete was ticketed for driving on a sidewalk, a violation.
