PLATTSBURGH -- Tom Neale picked up right where he left off last season on Sunday.

Neale tossed a five-inning no-hitter in the opener and rapped out seven hits on the day to lead the defending Champlain Valley Baseball League champion Plattsburgh Cardinals to a season-opening 13-1 and 12-1 doubleheader sweep of the Loreman's Royals at South Acres Field.

Neale struck out nine and walked one in pitching his no-hitter.

At the plate, Neale and Adam Porter led the Cardinals with two hits each, with Neale getting a double.

Neale then went five-for-five, including a double and three RBI, in the second game.

Winning pitcher Gary Duquette and Gus Terry, who took over in the fifth inning, combined for seven strikeouts and a one-hitter. Loreman's lone hit was a seventh-inning double by Nick Brindisi.

Tory Bouyea added three hits for the Cardinals, while Terry, Steve Burris and Nate Bilow added two each. One of Gus Terry's hits was a home run. Jason Terry chipped in with a base hit.
