The perfect pumpkin is the one you take home

PERU — The annual trip to the pumpkin patch is a favorite fall festivity for many area families.
"It is a family tradition we try to do every year for the kids," Pete Fessette of Beekmantown said.
In spirit of the Halloween season, the Fessette family made spider T-shirts before heading to Rulfs Orchard in Peru.
"We are making smiley-face pumpkins, not spooky ones," Tammy Fessette said.
The Bushey family also enjoys searching for the perfect Halloween pumpkin.
"We come every year to the pumpkin patch. We let the kids pick out their own pumpkin," Joe Bushey of Plattsburgh said.
"We are going to carve them into jack-o'-lanterns for Halloween," said Bushey's 5-year-old son, Ashtyn.
"The wagon ride is my favorite part," said Desirae Kryvanis, 10. "I want a big, fat and juicy pumpkin!
"My pumpkin will have huge eyes and one sharp tooth," she added.
"It is part of this time of year to go to the pumpkin patch," Wendy and Steve Braje of Plattsburgh said. Their son and daughter, Gareth and Ella, wanted big and tall pumpkins.
"The tall ones are the scariest," 5-year-old Ella said.
"We want to carve ghosts on our pumpkins," added Garet, who is 7.
Garet and Ella are looking forward to carving their pumpkins because "your hands get slippery and slimy," Ella said.
Wayne Ouimette, an employee at Rulfs Orchard since 1988, said there is no right answer for finding the perfect pumpkin.
"There are all different pumpkins. Pumpkins are very individual to people because some look for the perfect round one and others like the odd-shaped ones," Ouimette said.
"My favorite part is seeing the kid's faces light up when the wagon turns around the corner, and they see the pumpkin patch," he said.
"There is always new people coming here each year. You see people who came when they were young coming back and bringing their children."
