Bar stabbing victim released from hospital

PLATTSBURGH -- The man who was stabbed during an barroom argument last week has been released from the hospital.

After spending nearly a week at CVPH Medical Center, Jared Haney is recovering from the slashing that left him with a facial wound and an open gash to his abdomen that exposed his intestines.

He underwent emergency surgery after the Friday-morning assault at the Naked Turtle and spent several days recovering in the intensive-care unit.

Haney was released less than a day after his alleged attacker, Reginald Lee, 37, of Plattsburgh, had his case moved to Clinton County Court, which allowed the two-time felon to apply for bail.

Lee remained behind bars at the Clinton County Jail Thursday afternoon and was still trying to raise $25,000 bail for his release.

After his arrest, Lee told Plattsburgh City Court Judge Penelope Clute he was awaiting the birth of his child and wanted to get the criminal charges "over with" as soon as possible.

The downstate native was the only person arrested in connection with the early morning stabbing and is facing a felony charge of first-degree assault and a misdemeanor count of second-degree menacing.

Police officials said Lee slashed Haney and another man with a box cutter after he got into an argument with them, and bar employees asked him to leave the crowded establishment.

The other victim, who has not been identified, suffered an arm laceration during the assault.

At the time of his arrest, Lee told police he didn't mean to hurt anyone, but was trying to defend himself and scare away a small group of agitated "outsiders."

It was unclear Thursday when he will reappear in County Court to face the charges.
