Only Schroon school budget fails

PLATTSBURGH -- Schroon Lake was the only area school district to see its budget defeated Tuesday.

The $6.53 million budget went down by a 239-189 vote.

The budget was up 13.7 percent from this school year and included a 13.8 increase in the tax levy, which is the amount to be raised by taxes.

The proposition to purchase a new 59-passenger school bus for $99,900 passed, 217 yes votes to 198 no.

The School Board will have to meet to decide what direction to go now that the budget has been defeated.

School Board election results were not available Tuesday night due to a machine malfunction.

AuSABLE VALLEY

The $25,973,503 budget was approved by a 505-355 vote.

The three-year School Board seat went to Robert Douglas, with 660.

The unexpired two-year term was won by Susan Richards with 472 votes. Votes for the other candidates were: William Localio, 57; James Martineau Jr., 292; and Peter Vincent, 62.

BEEKMANTOWN

The $36,149,436 budget was approved by a 393-215 vote.

The two five-year School Board seats were won by Steve Trombley, 490 votes; and Richard Lavigne, 414 votes. Terry Lynn Savage received 244 votes.

The proposition to authorize the renovation of district infrastructure at a cost not to exceed $6,655,455 passed, 385 yes votes to 211 no.

The proposition to purchase three 65-passenger school buses and one 53-passenger school bus with wheelchair station at a cost not to exceed $354,042 passed, 405 yes votes to 161 no.
