TICONDEROGA -- Moses-Ludington Hospital has added a 16-slice CT scanner for faster and more advanced diagnosis of disease and injuries.
The new equipment provides more detailed images more quickly, helping doctors in diagnosing and treating disease at an earlier stage when a wider array of treatment options may be available.
CT (computerized tomography) scanning combines X-ray technology with a special computer to produce detailed, multi-dimensional images, called slices, of the inside of patients' bodies.
Scans can be used to detect or rule out the presence of cancer, heart disease, muscle and bone disorders, internal injuries, infection or other conditions.
"We will use the extensive image information we get from this scanner to generate very detailed 3-D images, which can be shared very quickly with referring physicians or surgeons," said Radiology Manager Valerie Brace.
She said CT scans at Moses-Ludington are interpreted by 12 board-certified radiologists at Adirondack Radiology Associates of Glens Falls.
Moses-Ludington Hospital also offers mammography, ultrasound, bone-density testing, fluoroscopy and other radiology and diagnostic imaging.
