PLATTSBURGH — An elderly woman from Cadyville died Saturday afternoon in a car accident in Queensbury.
Inez Pelkey, 81, was pronounced dead at Glens Falls Hospital due to internal injuries after the car she was riding in was struck by a vehicle driven by Paul J. Mosticchio of the Cayman Islands, according to a State Police.
Mosticchio was ticketed by police and is to appear in Queensbury Town Court on a later date.
Mosticchio, 45, was driving his 2009 Chevrolet south in the left lane near Exit 19 of Interstate 87 Saturday at about 12:20 p.m., when the vehicle swerved into the center lane, according to State Police.
It hit the rear of a 2008 Chevrolet driven by Ronald L. Martineau, 49, of Peru, sending the car off the right shoulder, where it rolled over.
Mosticchio's car came to rest in the median.
Martineau was treated for minor injuries at Glens Falls Hospital and released.
Pelkey was a rear-seat passenger and suffered internal injuries. She died at Glens Falls Hospital.
New York State Police issued Mosticchio tickets for reckless driving, moving from the lane unsafely and unlicensed operation.
His driver's license from the Cayman Islands lacks international status that would make it legal for him to drive in the United States, State Police said.
He was vacationing in Vermont and reportedly has a suspended New Jersey driver's license.
The accident remains under investigation.
