PULITZER - A Mass of Christian burial for Seward Webb "Spike" Pulitzer Jr., 71, of Au Sable Forks, was celebrated at 10 a.m., Friday, May 10, at Holy Name Church in Au Sable Forks. Spike entered into eternal rest on Sunday, May 5, at CVPH Medical Center, surrounded by his loving family. Father Kris Lauzon, Pastor, celebrated, assisted by Deacon John Ryan. Music was provided by Lynn Frenia, the Holy Name Church Choir and Sisters of St. Joseph. Altar servers were Libby Allen and David Lauzon. Full military honors were accorded by the New York Armory National Guard Military Funeral Honors and the United States Customs Service Honor Guard, along with American Legion Post 504. Gilbert Patenaude and James Akey served as Knights of Columbus Fourth Degree Color Guard. The pall was placed by his daughters, Brooke and Morgan Pulitzer. The crucifix was placed by his wife, Susan. His son, Seward "Chip" Pulitzer III placed his 4-way medal, Michael Fitzsimmons placed his Knights of Columbus 4th Degree sash and T.W. Murphy III placed the Boy Scout eagle. The nation's flag was placed by Capt. Dyana Allen. Readers were Sister Yvonne Therese, S.S.J. and Nicholas Fitzsimmons. Susan and Brooke Pulitzer led the Responsorial Psalm. Offertory Gifts were presented by Patti Fitz-Gerald and Lindsay Fitzgerald. Words of Remembrance were offered by his son, Seward W. "Chip" Pulitzer III and Brooke's fianc^ Jonathan Colburn read the poem "El Dorado" by Edgar Allen Poe. The Knights of Columbus Bible was presented to the family by Brother Knights Mark Holt and Tom McDonald. Pallbearers were brothers-in-law William T. and Robert Meconi, nephew William L. Meconi, Russell Gilbert, T.W. Murphy III and Capt. Dyana Allen. Burial followed in the parish cemetery where Father Lauzon and Deacon Ryan recited committal prayers. Cmdr. Roger Douglas, Vice Cmdr. Geoffrey Hewston and Chaplain Patricia Beardsley from American Legion Post 504 rendered Taps, the Rifle Volley and prayers respectively and Charles Potthast from Knights of Columbus Council 2301 played "Amazing Grace" on the bagpipes. A celebration of Spike's life followed at the Riverside Lanes in Au Sable Forks.
