DELBEL - A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated on Monday, July 15, at St. Mary's Church in Champlain for Rev. James A. Delbel, 69, Pastor of St. Mary's Church, who died Wednesday, July 10, at the Rectory in Champlain, following a valiant battle with cancer. The Most Reverend Terry R. LaValley, Bishop of Ogdensburg, celebrated the Mass and was assisted by Fr. Delbel's brother-in-law, Deacon Laszlo Ivanits, as well as Deacon Noel Hinerth and Deacon Leonard Patrie. Homilist was Rev. Clyde A. Lewis, Pastor of St. Patrick's Church in Rouses Point. The Master of Ceremonies was Rev. Douglas Lucia. Concelebrating priests from the diocese included Rev. Dennis Duprey, Rev. Philip Allen, Rev. Joseph Aubin, Rev. Andrew Amyot, Rev. Gilbert Boisvert, Rev. Paul Breyette, Rev. Timothy Canaan, Rev. Gerald Cerank, Rev. Douglas Comstock, Rev. Normand Cote, Rev. Lawrence Deno, Rev. John Downs, Rev. Douglas Decker, Rev. Bill Edwards, Rev. Guy Edwards, Rev. Scott Fobare, Rev. Gary Giroux, Rev. L. William Gordon, Rev. Albert Hauser, Rev. Daniel Keefe, Rev. Alan Lamica, Rev. Kris Lauzon, Rev. John J. Looby, Rev. J. Roger McGuinness, Rev. C. John McAvoy, Rev. Kevin McEwan, Rev. Bernard Menard, Rev. Gilbert Menard, Rev. Joseph A. Morgan, Rev. Raymond J. Moreau, Rev. Patrick Mundy, Rev. Kevin J. O'Brien, Rev. William Reamer, Rev. Donald Robinson, Rev. Scott Seymour, Rev. Bryan Stitt, and Rev. Richard Sturtz. Altar servers were Allisn Blain, Caleb Trombley, Emma Gooley, Carter Gooley, Logan Gooley, and Matthew Tetreault. Organist was Steve Burkey, who was accompanied by the choir and musicians of St. Mary's Church. Fr. Delbel's sister, Linda Ivanits, read the first and second scripture readings. Gifts were presented to the altar by his niece and her husband Becky and Gerald Shayler. Bishop Terry R. LaValley and Linda Ivanits offered remarks of remembrance and thanks to the congregation. Pallbearers were Knights of Columbus Council #3525 past and current officers, Chris Trombley, Jack Dawson, Doug Poquette, Alan Cardin, James LaFontaine, Francis Mercaldi, Mike Trahan, and Richard Favreau. Honorary pallbearers were 4th Degree Members of the Knights of Columbus from local councils. Burial will be today at noon in Mount Carmel Cemetery, Plattsburgh. Arrangements are in the care of M.B.
