“It’s exciting to win the Division I championship, and it’s one of the goals we hoped to accomplish this season,” Saranac coach Mary LoTemplio said.

“It also feels good to be undefeated for one more game. We know our final two (regular-season) games will be tough. We hope to finish strong.”

Summer Gillespie added a goal and two assists for the Chiefs.

Napper, Amy LoTemplio and Ellen Thew scored goals in the first half to give Saranac a 3-0 lead.

Napper, Gillespie and Makayla Duquette then all tallied over the final 40 minutes as the Chiefs pulled away.

The shutout in net went to Jamie Favreau, who made three saves. Jenny Ward and Sheila Decker combined to stop eight shots for the Red Storm.

“Decker played well in net for Saranac Lake,” LoTemplio said. “She made some outstanding saves on breakaways.”
