Applications for tax exemptions due to towns

ALBANY — The New York State Real Property Tax Exemption and new applications must be completed and filed with municipality assessors by March 1.

Real-property exemptions that may require a renewal application every year include senior citizen 50 percent (65 years or older), non-profit, limited income and disability and agricultural land.

Enhanced STAR (66 years or older) may require a renewal if owners do not file an income tax and are not signed up with the Income Verification Program.

Basic STAR, veterans and some other exemptions do not require a yearly renewal notice once applied for unless there is a change.

Contact any municipality’s assessors office for more information.
