Community Calendar: Jan. 25, 2013

The Press-Republican events calendar appears every Friday. Be sure submissions reach the Press-Republican newsroom at least one week before the calendar in which they need to appear.

David Davis Benefit event. 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Peru Community Church, Activity Hall. $6 for lunch/dinner. Event features 50/50 raffle, Chinese auction, children’s face-painting. David Davis was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia and is being treated at Brigham’s Women’s Hospital in Boston. He is retired from the U.S. Air Force and is a security supervisor at Pfizer Pharmaceuticals in Rouses Point.

Storyteller Cailin Mulvey’s Tales from the Mists of Time. 2 p.m. Wells Memorial Library, Upper Jay.

Champlain Valley Winter Wine Festival. 4 to 6:30 p.m. Legends Bistro and Comfort Inn. Grand tasting, silent auction, live music by pianist Emily Carlin. Tickets: $25. Followed at 6:30 with a three-course dinner paired with wine. Wine dinner tickets: $75 per person and cover food, wine, tax, tip and a $35 donation to benefit Champlain Valley Transportation Museum and Kids’ Station. Ticket package for both the tasting and the wine dinner: $90.

Meet Your New York State Legislators. 9:30 a.m. to noon, Peru Central High School. State legislators volunteer their time to educate and interact with students from area schools in Clinton and Essex counties (and members of the public) to learn how the State Legislature works. Sen. Betty Little, Assemblywoman Janet Duprey, Assemblyman Daniel Stec.
