PLATTSBURGH — The Keeseville man who was charged in Wednesday’s Stewart’s Shop robbery is a convicted sex offender.
The New York State Public Registry of Sex Offenders lists David A. Brown, 49, as being convicted of second-degree rape of a 12-year-old girl in March 1999.
The offense description includes kidnapping/unlawful imprisonment, sexual contact, deviate sexual intercourse and sexual intercourse.
The force used in the rape was hitting with a hand, fist or club, as well as coercion and threat. There was no computer used, but pornography was involved, according to the registry.
Brown’s sentence for the rape was two to six years in state prison.
According to the New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision website, he was incarcerated at Gouverneur Correctional Facility from April 6, 1999, until he was released to parole on Feb. 7, 2003.
He resides at 36 Jackson St. in Keeseville, according to the registry.
The rape case was handled by the Clinton County Sheriff’s Department.
Following a police investigation into Wednesday’s early morning robbery of the 7137 Route 9 Stewart’s in the Town of Plattsburgh, Brown was charged with first-degree robbery and third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, both felonies.
He was arraigned in the Plattsburgh Town Court before Town Justice Kevin Patnode and was sent to Clinton County Jail in lieu of $20,000 cash bail or $40,000 bail bond. Brown remained in jail Thursday.
