PLATTSBURGH — A Plattsburgh man was arrested after he allegedly robbed a man at gunpoint in the City of Plattsburgh early Wednesday morning, police said.
Shortly before 3 a.m., 22-year-old Andrew Price was walking west on Brinkerhoff Street from downtown, Plattsburgh City Police Chief Desmond Racicot said.
Martin Murchison, 23, of Plattsburgh was walking behind him, Racicot said.
Murchison saw Price leaving a parked car and approached him, brandishing a pellet gun, the police chief said.
Murchison allegedly took Price’s wallet and a GPS that Price was holding.
“We came to find out that Price went into a car that was not his and took the GPS,” Racicot said.
The car was unlocked, he said.
At about 3 a.m., Price called 911, and City Police responded to the site, according to a press release from City Police.
Patrol officers interviewed Price and scoured the area looking for a suspect with the description provided. Detectives were called in to investigate.
Police said they identified Murchison and a location where the stolen property could be found.
Plattsburgh City Court Judge Mark Rogers issued a search warrant for 108 Court St., and the Plattsburgh Police Department’s Special Response Team searched the residence Wednesday afternoon.
There, Murchison was charged with first-degree robbery and two counts of fourth-degree grand larceny, both felonies.
Also arrested at that location was James Carraway, 20, of Troy. He was charged with fourth-degree possession of stolen property, a felony, after police recovered the BB pistol, wallet and GPS at the Court Street residence, according to the release.
Price was charged with petit larceny, a misdemeanor, for allegedly taking the GPS from the parked car.
Racicot said Carraway and Murchison are not college students; he didn’t know whether Price attends college in the area.
Murchison remained in Clinton County Jail Thursday in lieu of $25,000 cash or $50,000 bond.
Carraway was still in jail Thursday, too, and his bail was set at $10,000 cash or $20,000 bond.
