Plattsburgh City School to host health-insurance forum

PLATTSBURGH — Plattsburgh City School District will host a public-information session on employee health-insurance plans at 6 p.m. Tuesday, April 23, at Stafford Middle School.

Steve Locey of Locey and Cahill LLC, the consulting firm that works with the Clinton-Essex-Warren-Washington Health Insurance Consortium, will provide information, including comparisons of Plan A and Plan B coverage, City School Superintendent James “Jake” Short said at a recent School Board meeting.

“It’s basically a format that is informational,” Short said. “It’s not a board meeting. We’re not going to be sitting at a board table taking actions. We’re just all going to be sitting in an audience, all listening and learning together, and anybody who has comments will share their comments with all of us as a group.”

In recent months, Plattsburgh resident Walter Chmura has urged the district to consider switching its employees from Plan A to Plan B, which, he said, is less costly but offers comparable coverage.

Chmura also asked the district to allow experts to present information about the options, so school officials, staff and community members could be armed with the facts.

Short responded by proposing the upcoming forum, an idea that School Board members supported.

The event is scheduled to take place in the Middle School cafeteria but may be moved to the auditorium depending on how many people attend.
