Thomas Vernon Backus

MIAMI, Okla. — Thomas Vernon Backus of Miami, Okla., and formerly of Ticonderoga, N.Y., died suddenly Tuesday, Feb.12.

Tom was born May 11, 1960. He was the son of Vernon and Martha (McClure) Backus. Tom graduated from Ticonderoga High School in 1978.

Tom was a long haul truck driver with well over one million miles. He was a good person with a good sense of humor. He liked to take his dog with him on his travels.

Tom was predeceased by his father Vernon Backus.

He is survived by his mother Martha Backus of Chase Mills, N.Y.; his wife Carol of Miami, Okla; sisters Connie Backus of Ticonderoga, Cindy (Charles) Beshaw of Massena, N.Y., Donna Backus of Chase Mills; nephews Gabriel and Thomas Beshaw of Philadelphia, Pa.; niece Rachel Beshaw of Massena. Services will be held starting at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 9, at the Kingdom of Jehovah's Witnesses on Burgoyne Road in Ticonderoga.
