Cougars hang on to win Bobcat Shootout

Press-Republican

ELLENBURG — Despite surrendering five 3-point field goals and having poor free-throw shooting in the fourth quarter, Northeastern Clinton was able to edge out Chateaugay 46-45 for the Bobcat Shootout championship in boys’ basketball at Northern Adirondack Saturday.

Sophomore sensation Austin Tetreault totaled 18 points on the night for the Cougars (2-0), 12 of which came from behind the 3-point stripe.

“There were breakdowns on both ends, and it was certainly a hard-fought game,” Northeastern Clinton coach Robb Garrand said. “We had a difficult time getting over that nine-point hump on multiple occasions. (Chateaugay) stepped up their defense late and gave us a tough time.”

Bulldogs (1-1) transfer Noah Bowes, who fired 33 points in Friday’s semifinal, was unable to generate momentum offensively after getting in foul trouble early in the contest.

Thomas Bedard, the Cougars lone senior on the squad, chipped in for 11 points in the win.

ELLENBURG — Northern Adirondack was unable to overcome an 11-point halftime deficit, falling to St. Lawrence 51-37 in the consolation round.

Josh White led the way for the Larries (1-1) with 17 points, while teammate Tyler Savage added 14.

“(St. Lawrence) went on a run late in the game when we were playing zone,” Northern Adirondack coach Nate Bilow said. “They hit multiple 3-pointers in the last two minutes, which opened the floodgates.”

Daniel Burger tallied 10 points Bobcats (0-2).
