Red Cross welcomes new communications director

---- — PLATTSBURGH — The American Red Cross of Northeastern New York Region has welcomed a new regional communications director.

Jaime Kazlo Watson recently took over the position, formerly held by Caroline Boardman, and will handle all aspects of the organization’s media-relations and disaster public affairs.

“I want to get the word out about all of the good work being done by the Red Cross of Northeastern New York,” Watson told the Press-Republican in an email.

The Northeastern New York Region comprises four chapters: the Mid-Hudson Valley, based in Poughkeepsie; the Adirondack-Saratoga Chapter, out of Glens Falls; the Albany-based Northeastern New York Chapter; and the North Country Chapter, based in Morrisonville.

“It’s so important the community knows the Red Cross does more than just respond to disasters,” Watson said.

“We have programs that are dedicated to helping our armed forces, as well as our veteran population; we are out in the community teaching kids and adults how to be prepared in case of an emergency; and we hold a number of special events in each of our chapters throughout the year to get our communities involved.”

A Moriah native, Watson served as director of college relations at Clinton Community College from 2011 until February of this year. Her position was one of several eliminated by the college due to budget cuts.

“Being at Clinton allowed me to see the benefit of working for a public organization,” said Watson, who recently gave birth to her and husband Chris Watson’s first child.

“I took a few months off after the birth of our daughter, Jenna, in March to spend time with her, but when I saw this opportunity with the American Red Cross come up, I had to jump on it,” she said.

“I couldn’t let the chance pass me by to work for an organization that does so much good for the public.”

Before joining CCC, Jaime was a news anchor and reporter with the 24-hour cable news station YNN in Albany, where she currently resides with Jenna and Chris, a sports anchor and reporter for the station.

“I’m looking forward to this next chapter and all that’s to come,” Jaime said.
