---- — HERKIMER — Russell A. LaFontaine, 91, of Herkimer and formerly of Champlain, N.Y., passed away peacefully Thursday, Feb. 15, 2013, in the Folts Home, Inc., Herkimer, with his family by his side. He was born Dec. 22, 1921, in Champlain, the son of the late Emmett and Elsie (Allard) LaFontaine and was educated in Champlain schools. Russell served in the United States Army during World War II. He married the former Leona Dupee. Mrs. LaFontaine passed away in 1989.

Prior to his retirement, Russell was employed with the Keough Bros. Tug Boat Company, Albany. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Russell is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Dennis and Patricia LaFontaine of Ilion; and his granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Melanie and Aaron Sandquist of Wheatfield, N.Y. He was predeceased by his brothers, Floyd LaFontaine and Armand LaFontaine.

A celebration of Russell's life took place on Monday, Feb. 18, at the Enea Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Road, Ilion, Town of Frankfort. Russell will be interred at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 25, at Whispering Maples Memorial Gardens, Tom Miller Road, Plattsburgh, NY.
