Mass. man gets prison time for sex offense

PLATTSBURGH — A Massachusetts man was sentenced to prison time and probation after he pleaded guilty to a felony sex offense.

Robert D. Coull, 66, of Marlborough, Mass., pleaded guilty to first-degree criminal sex act.

Clinton County Court Judge Patrick McGill sentenced him to a determinate prison sentence of five years, with 10 years of post-release supervision, according to the Clinton County District Attorney’s Office.

First-degree criminal sexual act involves oral or anal sexual conduct with a person who is incapable of consent due to age or some other factor, according to New York State Penal Law.

The victim was a young girl, said Clinton County Assistant District Attorney Domenica Padula.

An order of protection was put in place for the child.

Coull was ordered to pay $1,000 to register in accordance with the New York State Sex Offender Registration Act.

However, a registry risk level for Coull had not yet been set by the court, Padula said.

“(That) won’t be determined until he is set to be released from prison years from now,” she said in an email.

Coull must also pay a crime victim fee, provide a DNA sample and pay the $50 DNA sample-collection fee.
