Lumberjacks defeat Red Storm in girls' hoops

TUPPER LAKE — Lizzie Zurek scored 14 points and added 10 rebounds to help lead Tupper Lake to a 36-31 nonconference girls’ basketball win over Saranac Lake Thursday night.

Katie Stuart added 10 points, eight rebounds, six steals and five blocks for the Lumberjacks, who held a 24-14 advantage at the half.

Megan Moody paced the Red Storm with nine points, and Megan Kilroy added seven.

Minerva/Newcomb 39, Lake Placid 31

LAKE PLACID — Austin Williams scored seven of his game-high 18 points in the fourth quarter to lead Minerva/Newcomb to a victory over Lake Placid in Mountain & Valley Athletic Conference boys’ basketball.

The two teams were tied at 24-all before the Mountaineers went on a 15-7 run in the final stanza to pull away.

Williams finished with a double-double with 10 rebounds.

Tarik Cecunjanin was the leading scorer for the Blue Bombers with nine points, and Garrett Woodruff added seven.
