TICONDEROGA — William Joseph Stone, 88, of Ticonderoga, died on Wednesday, July 2, 2014, at Heritage Commons Residential Healthcare of Ticonderoga.
Born in Ticonderoga, Sept. 3, 1925, he was the son of the late Edward and Florence (LaDue) Stone.
Mr. Stone has been a lifelong resident of Ticonderoga. He was employed by the International Paper Company of Ticonderoga for 46 years and was a member of the company's Quarter Century Club. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus of Ticonderoga.
Mr. Stone honorably served in the U.S. Marine Corps 5th Marine Division Fox Company 2nd Battalion, 26 Marines. He was the recipient of the Purple Heart after being wounded at Iwo Jima on March 3, 1945. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Marine Corps League.
He was pre-deceased his wife, Betty L. Stone on Aug. 20, 2013. Survivors include one daughter, Sue M. Velasquez and her husband, Darryl of El Paso, Texas; and two sons, Michael J. Stone and his wife, Mary Jane of Vergennes, Vt., and Peter J. Stone of Ticonderoga. He is also survived by six grandchidren; and one great-granddaughter.
Relatives and friends may call from 4 to 6 p.m., Monday, July 7, at the Wilcox & Regan Funeral Home, 11 Algonkin St., Ticonderoga. A Funeral Service will follow at 6 p.m. on Monday at the Funeral Home. The Rev. Mr. Elliott A. Shaw will officiate. Graveside Services with military honors will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, July 8, at the family plot of St. Mary's Parish Cemetery of Ticonderoga
