PLATTSBURGH — First Assembly of God’s Easter Sunday service includes a musical, “Arise My Love,” arranged and orchestrated by Bradley Knight.
“It’s essentially the story of God’s love for us, and the fact that God loved us enough to send his son (Jesus) for us,” said Karen Joy, choir director. “We are essentially lost, fallen and orphaned without him. Because he did rise from the dead, he’s taken us as his own.”
The 45-minute musical at 164 Prospect Ave. features narrations and contemporary Christian songs.
“Some (narrations) are scripture verses, and some are explanatory statements to help the stories that follow along,” Joy said. “Some are songs on the Christian radio (stations) right now.”
Over the years, Joy has done several musicals.
“I hadn’t been doing them. We haven’t had enough people,” she said. “People ask me, ‘Are you going to do an Easter musical this year?’
“I put a notice in the church bulletin and asked people to sign up. I got enough people.”
Joy watched preview packs to select Sunday’s musical.
“I listened to four different ones,” she said. “This one just stood out to me. It was very relevant and moving. I think, given our society today and the almost hopelessness people feel because of the economy, God loves us and hasn’t abandoned us. That is very relevant for people today.”
