PORT HENRY — Richard C. Sargent, 77, of Port Henry passed away on Wednesday, July 17, 2013, at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born May 10, 1936, to the late Fredrick and Alice Sargent.
Richard leaves his loving wife, Shirley, whom he married on July 18, 1959. He is survived by his three sons, Richard and Pam Sargent of Port Henry, Randy and Rhonda Sargent of Crown Point, and Robert and Kellie Sargent of Crown Point. He leaves behind five grandchildren, Shannon Wadsworth (John), Natasha Tuthill (Whitney), Brad Sargent (Emily), Travis Sargent (Jessica) and Chad Sargent (Christina); and eight great-grandchildren, Ethan Java, Lexa Tuthill, Avery Briggs, Tayler Tuthill, Eva Sargent, Savannah Sargent, Newly and Vernin Sargent. Richard also leaves behind his siblings, Patrica Timms of Arizona, and Sandy Fernandez, Ronnie Sargent and Gary Sargent, all of Moriah.
Calling hours will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, July 19, at Harland Funeral Home in Port Henry. A funeral service and burial will take place at 12 p.m. Saturday, July 20, at the South Moriah Cemetery. A celebration of his life will follow at his home on Lake View Avenue.
Richard's passion in life was valued by his family and friends. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, trapping and his gardening. He enjoyed life to its fullest.
The family wishes to express their gratitude to the staff of High Peaks Hospice and to Pastor Charlie Boistridge for the walks in the garden, watching the ball games and simply having a maple donut with him.
A special thanks goes out to friend Rick Smith for all the support and help, and to Kellie Winchell for all your caregiving for him to the end.
