Event kicks off Franklin County marketing effort

MALONE — More than 100 business and community leaders attended the recent “Celebration of Business in Franklin County,” hosted by the County of Franklin Industrial Development Agency Board of Directors. 

Held at the Malone Golf Club, the inaugural event introduced the IDA’s new marketing program, geared to attract investments and increase jobs in the county.

Speaking at the celebration was Andrew Zvirzdin, political/economic officer from the U.S. Consulate in Montreal, who talked about partnering with Franklin County to attract business to the area.

He expounded on how the U.S. mission in Canada could contribute to export opportunities for Franklin County firms, a press release from the IDA said.

The event provided “a unique means to bring business leaders together to network and to explore new opportunities,” it said. 

“We believe Franklin County is the ideal location for expanding a business or locating a new business, and we are taking steps to raise our profile with investors from Canada and other regions of the U.S. to create jobs,” IDA CEO John Tubbs said in the release. 

“Over the coming year, we will be undertaking a marketing campaign focused specifically at Canadian companies seeking to establish operations in the U.S.

“Our goal is to let them know that we are open for business and ready to assist with a host of programs, services and attractive incentives to facilitate their investment in the county.”

Also attending the celebration were Rick Tachuk, chair of the National Capital Chapter of the American Chamber of Commerce in Canada; Lucy Latka, senior commercial specialist at the U.S. Embassy in Ottawa; and Michael Grossman, senior international trade specialist from the U.S. Department of Commerce, who provided counseling to local firms on increasing business with Canada.

IDA Board Chair Joseph Perry welcomed guests to the event, which wrapped up with general conversation and drawings for door prizes. 

“Due to the turnout and positive response, the Board of Directors hopes to make this an annual event,” the release said.
