SILVER BAY — Deborah Jones Breitenbach, 60, of Silver Bay, N.Y., died on April 22, 2014, peacefully in Burlington, Vt.
Deborah was born in Singapore, Malaysia, on Feb. 11, 1954, the daughter of Rev. Tracey K. and Martha C. Jones, and stepdaughter of Junia Moss Jones following Martha's passing. She was sister to Judith Watson of Durango, Colo.; Tracey K. Jones III of Newark, N.J.; Tim Moss and his wife Kari of Cheyenne, Wyo.; and Rob Moss and his wife Kathy of Charlotte, N.C.
Deborah was a graduate of Montclair High School in New Jersey, and she earned a bachelor of arts degree in English Literature at Bucknell University in Lewisburg, Pa., and a masters degree in Education at the College of Saint Rose in Albany, N.Y.
Deborah married John C. Breitenbach Jr. on Aug. 27, 1977, and soon thereafter accepted a position teaching English at Voorhees High School in Glen Gardner, N.J. Deborah and John relocated to Ticonderoga, N.Y. in 1979, where Deborah began a 35 year career as the 12th grade English teacher at Ticonderoga High School. Deborah thrived at Ti High, where she provided encouragement, support and guidance to the thousands of students who came through her classroom, as well as many of her colleagues and friends on the staff. Deborah loved literature and teaching, but most of all she relished the opportunity to help her students achieve their goals in whatever way possible. She served as advisor for the schools National Honor Society and coached the Academic Bowl Team for many years, achieving success at a national level in tournaments in Washington D.C.
Deborah is survived by her husband of 36 years, John C. Breitenbach Jr; daughter Katherine Grace Breitenbach and her husband Devin John Anderson of Greenwich, N.Y.; son, John C. Breitenbach III of Albany, N.Y.; and grandchild, Tracey John Anderson.
