WESTPORT — Ulrich (Rick) V. Hoffmann of Westport; and, since October 2013, Lake Forest Senior Living Community in Plattsburgh, died peacefully Tuesday, April 1, 2014. He was born Sept. 15, 1928, the son of the late Dr. Rudolph F. Hoffmann and Amalie M. Hoffmann. He was predeceased by his brother, Urich (George) Hoffmann; and son, Michael U. Hoffmann. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Barbara; his son, Donald Hoffmann and his wife Tina of Plattsburgh; and his daughter, Kathleen A. Stillson and her husband Peter of Danbury, Conn.; his grandchildren and his great-granddaughter, all of whom he held so dear.

Rick was born in Munich, Germany. His primary education was at Gordonstown School in Scotland, Great Britain. He attended Georgetown University, Washington, D.C., from 1948 to 1952. He then served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War as platoon leader in the 24th infantry from 1952 to 1954; before returning to continue his education, post-graduate, from 1954 to 1956 at Georgetown Law School, Washington, D.C. In his early years as an attorney, he served on the Civil Aeronautics Board in Washington, D.C., and later went on to serve as Senior Vice President External Affairs and Senior Vice President General Counsel at Trans World Airlines and Trans World Corporation, New York, N.Y.

He retired in Westport, N.Y., in 1986, where he and his wife resided; first on a farm and later in the village. He served for some years as both Chairman of the Board at Elizabethtown Community Hospital and Chairman of the Assessment Review Board in Westport.

Rick loved his family, his friends, and the people of his community; and would wish for them all to know how greatly he appreciated their goodness and strong character. In his last days, he was in the capable hands of Hospice of the North Country, located at 358 Tom Miller Road, Plattsburgh, N.Y. 12901, and strongly recommends them as an entity deserving of charitable contributions.

A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. April 5, at St. Philip Neri Church, Westport. Additional services will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family.
