---- — PLATTSBURGH — Noreen M. Lobdell, died Friday, Nov. 15, 2013, at the CVPH Medical Center.
She was born in Manchester, the United Kingdom, the daughter of Rev. Frederick G. and Marion (Roberts) Chesnutt.
Noreen studied music and education at Hockerill College, U.K. She passed with honors on all the examinations of the Royal School of Music and the London Royal Academy of Music.
Noreen was a piano teacher for over 45 years, having taught music in the English School System, and piano and voice privately, both in the United Kingdom and the United States. She studied English and European Folk Dancing at Cambridge Technical College in Cambridge, U.K. She also held the Archbishop's Diploma in Divinity, 1st class honors (Anglican Church).
Noreen was an organist and choir director at Trinity Episcopal Church in Plattsburgh from 1969 to 1975, and also Interim Music Director and Organist on several occasions. She was instrumental in successfully introducing the "Rejoice" Folk Mass and building a large youth choir. She was also commissioned as a Lay-Pastoral-Caregiver of the Episcopal Church and ran the Pastoral Care Organization for many years. She was a member of the American Guild of Organists, Valcour Chapter, Music Educator's National Conference and N.Y.S.S.M.A., the Plattsburgh Noon Kiwanis Club, Adirondack Division, New York District and worked for the Chairman of the Clinton County Human Rights Commission.
Noreen was an enthusiastic supporter of Animal Rights Organizations, the Human Society of the U.S., P.E.T.A., National Wildlife Federation, North Shore Animal League and also Greenpeace. She was on the board of the local Adirondack Humane Society from its inception and did the weekly Pet Report on W.I.R.Y. Radio. She loved people and animals.
She also did volunteer work at CVPH Medical Center, Hospice Care of Clinton County and Planned Parenthood where she received a "Volunteer of the Year" Award.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Patrick and Joan Lobdell of De Bary, Fla.; four grandchildren, Heather, Elizabeth Ann, Shawn and Kathleen; great-granddaughter, Hailey; great-grandson, Jaeland; and several nieces and nephews and their children.
She was predeceased by her husband James who died in 1991, and a sister and brother-in-law, Patricia and Marshall Mayes.
There will be no public calling hours. A funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 23, at the Trinity Episcopal Church in Plattsburgh.
