PLATTSBURGH — 3Wire plans to close the distribution-center portion of its company in Plattsburgh, affecting up to 15 employees.
3Wire Vice President of Operations Jeff Audette said they are still meeting with the workers to determine that final number and what sort of compensation might be available.
The company has set May 31 as the tentative closing date.
Audette said the call center in Plattsburgh, with about 50 employees, will remain in business.
“We’re looking to extend our lease at that facility,” he said, adding it is very popular with their national accounts.
‘DOESN’T MEET NEEDS’
The company has two distribution centers in the Northeast — Plattsburgh and Pennsauken, N.J., which is near Philadelphia. Its customer growth and evolving needs for rapid service make the New Jersey facility the preferred option, so 3Wire is expanding at that location.
“Our Plattsburgh center doesn’t meet the needs of what our customers are asking,” Audette said.
3Wire is one of the leading national distributors of original-equipment manufacturer parts for the foodservice and beverage industries.
The company was known as Northern Parts and Service when it expanded its operation in Plattsburgh in 2005 with a new call center, warehouse and distribution center on the former Plattsburgh Air Force Base.
It was acquired by BEVCORe, a division of IMI plc, in the fall of that year. IMI grouped those companies with Pacific Coast Parts, Restaurant Appliance Service and NASS Parts and Service to form 3Wire shortly after.
According to the company website, 3Wire has seven nationwide locations. It provides more than 200,000 parts from hundreds of original-equipment manufacturers, as well as a vast collection of equipment manuals.
