ESSEX - David S. Lansing, age 76, died suddenly on Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2013, at his home in Essex. He was born Sept. 20, 1937, in Schenectady, to Donald S. Lansing and Dorothy Whitbeck Lansing Blair.
David graduated from Scotia High School, Hudson Valley Community College and State University of NY at Oswego. He served as a military policeman in the U.S. Army, and taught industrial arts/technology at Vestal High School and Willsboro Central School. He was Zoning and Code Officer for the Town of Essex; and, at the time of his death, was Code Officer for the Town of Lewis. He was also Fire Chief for Essex Fire Department and Rescue Squad, a position he proudly held for 20 years.
David is survived by his wife of 51 years, Dianne Bender Lansing; his son and daughter-in-law, Dan and Patti Lansing of Newtown, Conn.; his daughter and son-in-law, Deborah and Bruce Miller of Fly Creek, N.Y.; five grandchildren, Alex, Julia and Nick Lansing, Nathaniel and Maria Miller; his brother, Mark Lansing and wife Denise; his sister, Penny Lansing delaRocha and husband Carlos; his brother-in-law, David Bender and wife Debbie; several cousins, nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by his parents; and sisters, Mary and Miriam (Muffy).
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 14, at Essex Community Church.
