You can look back over the last 70 years at some of the area athletes and personalities who made headlines in area sports. Flashback will revive memories of great local athletes and outstanding team successes.

POTSDAM — The Chateaugay Bulldogs turned back the stubborn St. Regis Falls Saints 4-0 Thursday to advance to the championship game in Section X girls' Class D soccer.

Chateaugay, the top seed, will take on Harrisville, the No. 2 seed, next Friday at 5 p.m. at Potsdam High School for the section championship and the right to go on in state play.

The Cook sisters — Marissa and Hannah — accounted for two of the Chateaugay goals with Kelly Favaro and Sarah Gardiner also scoring.

Chateaugay outshot St. Regis Falls 19-11 with Amanda Wilcox recording the shutout with six saves. Aleesha Labounty had eight saves for the Falls (9-6-3).

Chateaugay (14-1) took the lead at 22:23 with Favaro deflecting in a great cross from Alexis Beach.

Marissa Cook then connected 10:39 into the second half with her direct kick going in off a St. Regis Falls defender. Marissa Cook then sent Hannah Cook in on a breakway for a goal at 14:40 to make it 3-0.

Gardiner capped the scoring, converting a nice cross from Nikki Cook-Paige at 30:21.

Underclassmen figured prominently in the Chateaugay offense. Hannah Cook is just an eighth-grader while Gardiner and Beach are freshmen.

It was Chateaugay's fourth shutout in its last five games and 11th of the season.

"Amanda (Wilcox) made some nice saves and Marci Wood and Amanda Johnston played well at fullback for us," Chateaugay Coach Steve Lang said.

The Class D final will be a rematch of the 2008 championship, won by Harrisville 1-0.
