Published October 29, 2009 11:16 pm - Clinton County offering seasonal clinic; Franklin County plans H1N1 clinics and one for seasonal vaccine.

Flu clinics coming up in Clinton, Franklin counties

PLATTSBURGH — Flu clinics are scheduled in several communities around the North Country.

Health officials say that people who have the flu likely have H1N1, more commonly known as swine flu, as no other seasonal flu has been identified in New York state at this time.

However, they note that 99 percent of those with H1N1 will have a mild case and recover, as is common with seasonal flu.

People with underlying health conditions are at the most danger of a more severe illness with H1N1.

H1N1
Franklin County is the only local county holding public H1N1 flu clinics at this time. The county has already vaccinated hundreds of people against swine flu.

Priority is being given to pregnant women and children age 6 months up to young adults age 24.

As long as the H1N1 vaccine is still available, clinics will be held:

Nov. 4: Saranac Lake High School, 3 to 5 p.m.

Nov. 9: Brushton-Moira Central School, 3 to 5 p.m.

Nov. 16: Franklin Academy High School, Malone, 3 to 5 p.m.

Dec. 4: North Country Community College, Saranac Lake, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

SEASONAL FLU
Seasonal flu clinics are also coming up in Clinton and Franklin counties. H1N1 shots will not be available at these clinics.

In Clinton County, a clinic will be held 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 5, at the Peru Veterans of Foreign Wars Post on Route 22B. For more information, call 565-4848.

County health officials hope to offer more clinics in the coming weeks.

In Franklin County, a clinic will be held 9 to 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 2, at the Brushton Adult Center. These seasonal flu shots are being given by appointment only; the supply is limited. Call 529-7314.
