NAC, PHS win in softball
ELLENBURG -- Kristen Brunell belted a grand slam and then hit a walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh as Northern Adirondack rallied past Saranac Lake, 13-12, in Champlain Valley Athletic Conference softball Thursday.
Jenna Brunell entered in the seventh and earned the pitching win.
The Bobcats trailed, 12-6, after the top of the fifth, but they tied it by scoring six runs in bottom of the inning, including Kristen Brunell's grand slam. Then Brunell drove in the winning run in the seventh for her sixth RBI of the day.
Kayla Rabideau and Heather Byron both had two hits for the Bobcats (5-4).
Melissa Mercado entered in the fifth and took the loss. Maegan Meade hit a 2-RBI double for Saranac Lake, and Rhonwen Jones had two hits and an RBI.

LAKE PLACID -- Jen Menard struck out six and allowed just one hit in three innings of relief as the Hornets beat the Blue Bombers (3-7, 2-7).
Dana Curle and Kelly Wehrenberg had two hits apiece for the Hornets (6-2).
Brae Blair pitched the complete game, striking out nine, and hit a home run. Cathrine Valentine doubled, and Jenna McGreevy and Alex Caudill each added two hits.
