Iowa City police seek woman who destroyed plants

IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) — Police in Iowa City are offering a reward for information leading to the arrest of an unlikely criminal: a woman who destroyed plants in its picturesque downtown.

Iowa City police announced Wednesday that investigators were trying to identify a woman seen on surveillance footage ripping plants out of the planters located in front of Hotel Vetro, near the city's signature pedestrian mall. The crime happened Sept. 7 at about 9:20 p.m.

The police say the plants were ruined, and they are trying to hold the woman responsible for the mischief as part of a broader effort to curb nuisance behaviors downtown.

Iowa City Area CrimeStoppers is offering a reward of up to $1000 for information leading to the arrest of the suspect.
