Richard James and Ruth Ivester were married on May 6, 1947, in Greenville, S.C. by Rev. W.H. Edgar. In 1975, Richard was coach for Southern NE Youth Football Council, Ledyard, Conn; from 1977 to 1981, Sec. Southern NE Youth Football Council, Ledyard; and from 1975 to 1981, Commissioner, Southern NE Youth Football Conference, Ledyard. Richard retired from Charles Pfizer in 1986.

Ruth was employed at the submarine base Navy Exchange, in Groton, Conn., from 1973 until 1988, when she retired. She enjoyed bingo for many years. Both Ruth and Richard are long-time Yankees fans.

They have four children: Linda Armstrong, Norwich, Conn.; Kay Peabody and husband Duane, Laurel, Md.; Ruth Palmer, Schuyler Falls, N.Y.; and Pat Ring and husband David, Bridgton, Maine. They also have 14 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
