PLATTSBURGH — Palmer Veterinary Clinic’s licensed veterinary technician, Sarah Benway,  is Purina’s first Plattsburgh Certified Weight Management Coach.

An in-clinic coach is now available to provide support and tools to pet owners and to help fight the growing trend of pet obesity. As part of the Purina Certified Weight Coach Program, the local coach will specialize in pet obesity and serve as a resource for those owners who need support to get their pets closer to slimmer and healthier lifestyles. According to the American Association for Pet Obesity Prevention survey, more than 50 percent of dogs and cats in America are facing obesity. Risks include diabetes, heart disease, arthritis and an earlier death. 

The Purina Certified Weight Coach Program is part of the nationwide Project Pet Slim Down iniative, and certifies in-clinic coaches to provide specialized nutrition expertise and weight counseling for pet owners with overweight pets. For more information, call 561-1893.

Also, the clinic is welcoming the arrival of Dr. Nathan Theobald, a mixed-animal practitioner who will be providing healthcare to dairy, equine and pets. His special interests include dairy medicine and small-animal ophthalmology. Theobald is

from Delafield, Wisc., and attended the Milwaukee School of Engineering prior to the Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine at Tufts University. For the past year, he has been practicing veterinary medicine in a mixed practice in Maine. He and his wife, Stephanie, live in Plattsburgh with their English bulldog and two cats.

Palmer Veterinary Clinic is located in Plattsburgh on 6274 State Route 22 and has been serving the needs of animals in Clinton County for more than 50 years.

 

Deadline extended

PLATTSBURGH — The North Country Cultural Center for the Arts has extended its deadline for the Adirondack Coast ARTWays Project, “Adirondack Coast Harvest,” to Thursday.

The project is a collaboration designed to foster tourism and regional pride on the Adirondack Coast through locally created, original artwork. This place-based artwork will depict distinct themes recognized in the Adirondack Coast Destination Master Plan including local landscapes, history, agriculture and outdoor recreation. The project is seeking regional artists for its second round, “Adirondack Coast Harvest,” focusing on the regions deep ties to agriculture.
