New board member

PLATTSBURGH — Brian Gladwin joined the Board of Directors of of Behavioral Health Services North in October after serving many years in similar positions with other local boards looking at the future growth of services in the North Country community, according to Craig Amoth, BHSN president and CEO .

Gladwin is vice president and regional commercial banking officer of NBT Bank in Plattsburgh. He has been president of North Country Alliance, a private-public consortium of economic-development organizations, private businesses, utilities, public and private colleges, the media and financial institutions working to grow the economy of New York’s six-county North Country region.

Fundraiser hosted

PLATTSBURGH — Cumberland 12 Theater will host an event that will raise funds for the construction of a universally accessible tree house in the City of Plattsburgh.

The Max Moore Memorial Tree House Project will be hosting a movie fundraiser at Cumberland 12 in Plattsburgh on Dec. 7 at 10 a.m. The Disney Pixar movie “Frozen” will be featured for this event. Tickets are $10, popcorn included. Five dollars from each ticket sale will be donated to the construction of the tree house.

The project will be built along the Saranac River Trail in Plattsburgh. Equipped with a special ramp, the tree house will offer recreation opportunities to the entire community, including those with limited mobility. The universal design concepts will allow access by wheelchairs and strollers, offering a rare opportunity for everyone, including the disabled and young children, to enjoy a real tree house overlooking the scenic river.

Several years ago, Plattsburgh pediatrician Dr. Heidi Moore dreamed of building a tree house with a special ramp for her then 5-year-old son, Max, who relied on a wheelchair for his mobility, in the hopes that he might come close to experiencing one of her favorite childhood passions, climbing trees. Max is no longer here, but the dream can come true for others.
