Energy program

PLATTSBURGH — Since May 2010, New York State Electric and Gas (NYSEG) has been offering the Small Business Energy Efficiency Program to eligible small business owners across their service area.

This direct-installation lighting program, offered to commercial customers with demand under 100 kilowatts (kw), provides a free lighting assessment and a 70 percent contribution of eligible upgrade costs from the utility.

In the last 18 months, NYSEG has achieved significant market saturation for the program, with the implementation contractor, EnerPath, enrolling more than 9,200 small businesses. The owners are saving a collective 89.5 million kilowatt-hours of electricity and $8.1 million on their electricity bills annually.

With the New York State Efficiency Portfolio Standard mandating a 15 percent energy reduction by 2015, utilities are turning to Small Business Direct Install Programs as an effective way to achieve those goals.

Career Fair

AKWESASNE — On Friday, April 27, Iohahi:io Akwesasne Adult Education and Training Center will be hosting Career Fair 2012.

This event will be held at the A'nowara'ko:wa Arena from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Cornwall Island (Kawehno:ke). It will mark the 11th Career Fair hosted by Iohahi:io.

"As local economies continue to struggle, the Career Fair creates opportunities for individuals searching for direction or considering prospective career paths," said Vincenette Cook, program manager of Iohahi:io Akwesasne Adult Education and Training Center. "The Career Fair is only one of the initiatives where Akwesasne promotes success and economic growth and development for its community and its neighbors."

An estimated 75 exhibitors and more than 1,600 career seekers are expected to attend. Representatives from various fields will be available to share information and answer questions. Exhibitors include professional and trades representatives from a variety of career fields, colleges, universities and private and public training and educational organizations.
