Energy program

PLATTSBURGH — Since May 2010, New York State Electric and Gas (NYSEG) has been offering the Small Business Energy Efficiency Program to eligible small business owners across their service area.

This direct-installation lighting program, offered to commercial customers with demand under 100 kilowatts (kw), provides a free lighting assessment and a 70 percent contribution of eligible upgrade costs from the utility.

In the last 18 months, NYSEG has achieved significant market saturation for the program, with the implementation contractor, EnerPath, enrolling more than 9,200 small businesses. The owners are saving a collective 89.5 million kilowatt-hours of electricity and $8.1 million on their electricity bills annually.

With the New York State Efficiency Portfolio Standard mandating a 15 percent energy reduction by 2015, utilities are turning to Small Business Direct Install Programs as an effective way to achieve those goals.

There is still time for businesses under 100 kw to enroll in this money-saving program. To learn more, call 1-877-359-9814 or visit www.nyseg.com and click on "energy efficiency incentives."
