PLATTSBURGH — Firefighters from several area departments quickly doused a fire at La Quinta Inn & Suites in Plattsburgh Tuesday morning.
About 10:45 a.m., word came in to Clinton County Fire Control that smoke had been spotted in the pool area of the hotel, located at 16 Plaza Boulevard off Route 3.
It was soon reported as a “working structure fire,” with firefighters from District 3, South Plattsburgh, Beekmantown and Morrisonville dispatched.
Follow-up requests went out for an aerial ladder truck and more volunteers.
Hotel guests and employees were evacuated while crews investigated where the smoke was coming from and ventilated the corridors. At the time, about eight guests were at the hotel, and 14 staff members were working.
Firefighters said the source of the problem came from the mechanical room near the pool area on the second floor.
District 3 Assistant Fire Chief Scott Ewing said the fire was a “quick knockdown” and was contained to that room.
“We are pleased by the quick response by the Clinton County Fire Control,” a statement from La Quinta Inns & Suites said.
Clinton County investigators are still working Tuesday to determine the cause of the fire and evaluate the damage done to the room.
There were no injuries.
