MALONE — Four local men are in custody and another is being sought for allegedly breaking into a Moira home, brandishing a gun and stealing a wallet Tuesday night.
Nicholas L. Jock, 27, of Moira; James L. “Guy” Robideau III, 30, of Malone; Shawn T. Robideau, 28, of St. Regis Falls; and Ryan D. Jacques, 28, of Hogansburg were each arraigned in Malone Town Court Wednesday on a charge of first-degree burglary for allegedly breaking into the home of Lucas Marshall at 2174 Franklin County Road 5.
A fifth person was expected to be arrested late Wednesday, according to District Attorney Derek Champagne.
Jock, Jacques and James Robideau are accused of entering the house with a rifle and stealing a wallet.
They were each reportedly wearing hooded sweatshirts backwards, with eyeholes cut out in the hoods to allow them to see, State Police said.
Shawn Robideau is accused of being in the getaway car outside the home, according to court documents.
The others allegedly barged in the house, waving the gun and demanded money, then struggled with Marshall a bit before he was able to run to a neighbor’s house to call for help.
The four arraigned men had not-guilty pleas entered on their behalf by Town Justice Michael Lamitie, who ordered each of them to be held in County Jail on $50,000 cash bail and $100,000 insurance bond.
“First, I want the public to know that this was a specific, targeted incident and to not be afraid that there is a gang of individuals running wildly through the North Country,” said Champagne.
“And secondly, this is yet another example that the flow and trade of marijuana has violence attached to it.
“This is a pure example of the associated violence that fortunately did not end in a person’s death. The way this went down and all that happened, it could have easily ended in loss of life,” Champagne said.
He declined to give more details because of the ongoing investigation.
The cases are to be transferred to Moira Town Court, where the men are due to appear on Monday.
