FREDONIA -- The Plattsburgh State men's hockey team received a strong game from freshman netminder Bryan Hince Saturday night and completed a State University of New York Athletic Conference weekend sweep on the road with a 3-0 victory at Fredonia.
The unbeaten Cardinals, following up on Friday night's 6-1 decision at Buffalo State, improved to 7-0 both in the conference and overall.
"It's a tough road trip for us and we were able to get four points this weekend," said Plattsburgh State head coach Bob Emery. "We're sitting pretty in the conference standings right now and we don't have a league game for a few weeks.
"Plus, we have two tough conference road trips out of the way, with only one more to go."
Hince, while improving his record to 5-0, turned away all 40 shots thrown his way, including 20 in the second period.
T.J. Cooper gave the Cardinals the lead with a short-handed goal with 14:07 gone in the first period.
The second period was wide-open one, with Plattsburgh State taking 21 shots on goal and Fredonia, 20.
Hince came up big early in the period before the Cardinals made it 2-0 at 13:41 on Mike Baccaro's power-play goal.
Then, with 18:33 gone in the stanza, Andrew Willock gave the Cardinals a three-goal lead with the teams skating five-aside.
"Hince answered the bell for us in the second period," Emery said. "We played our worst period of the season and he stood in there tall for us.
"There were a lot of mistakes on the part of both teams in the second period."
Plattsburgh State finished with a 46-40 shot advantage, with Pat Street making 43 stops for the Blue Devils (3-3-2, 1-2-1).
"On the other end, we did a great job with the lead in the third period," Emery said. "We were able to get the time off the clock very quickly."
Two of the three Cardinals' goals in the game were scored by seniors.
"We're getting some great leadership," Emery said. "It showed this weekend as a lot of guys stepped up."
There were only a combined eight penalties called, five by the Blue Devils.
The Cardinals play their first game outside the conference on Saturday when they are in Elmira for a 7 p.m. contest.
Next up for the team after that will be hosting the PrimeLink Shootout on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 23-24.
In other SUNYAC action Saturday night, Cortland skated to a 3-2 overtime upset in Geneseo; Oswego edged out a 4-3 victory at Brockport; and Potsdam played to a 2-all overtime tie with Buffalo State.
