Federal, state and local officials set up a Flood Command Center at the Saranac Lake Fire Station to monitor the ongoing rising waters of the Saranac River and enact evacuations as necessary. Many homes, apartments and businesses along with water-treatment facilities, bridges, roads and water pipes were damaged in that May 2011 event, which contributed to unprecedented water levels in Lake Champlain.
