Firefighters deal with blaze in West Chazy

WEST CHAZY — Firefighters, including crews from West Chazy and Beekmantown, doused a structure fire at 960 Ashley Road this afternoon.

Damage seemed limited to inside the mobile home.

The first call went out at 12:52 p.m., even as Clinton County dispatch was summoning departments to a brush fire near 480 Leggett Road in Champlain, not far from the Mason Road intersection.

Response there included a tanker from Rouses Point Volunteer Fire Department, and a request for a brush truck was made from the departments in Altona and Chazy.

At about 1:20 p.m., another brush truck was called for from Beekmantown Volunteer Fire Department, and Champlain EMS was asked to have an ambulance on standby at the site of the Champlain blaze.

Smoke from that fire was visible at a distance of 2 miles or more.

More information will be added to this report as it becomes available.
