PHOTO PROVIDED The Lake Placid Chocolatier, Katherine Mason, with her favorite vintage candy container â€" a 20 pound Reed's Butterscotch Wafer tin. The Reed brothers of Chicago, founded the company in 1883 and by 1921 they were the largest producer of butterscotch candy in the nation. Tins from the 1920s through 1940s have gold lettering on them. The white lettering on this tin dates it from the mid 1950s through 1962.
